Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park - where the animals have fun too
Walkabout Park is a unique, eco-friendly 80-acre sanctuary on the Central Coast, only 50 minutes drive from Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Activities and Attractions at the Park:
With more than 180 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and arachnids in our park, you never know what you might see! Koalas, flying-foxes, reptiles, mice, stick insects and spiders can always be seen in enclosures in and around the visitor centre, and our dingoes and wombats are regularly brought out of their enclosures so that you can have a chance to cuddle and walk with them. Two species of kangaroo, emus and six species of wallabies hang around near our visitor centre and along our three kilometres of walking tracks. Zoë, with her diamante-studded collar, is probably the most-photographed Eastern Grey Kangaroo on the Central Coast! Leila (our female Red Kangaroo), Marshall (the sweetest little Swamp Wallaby), and Tegan (our hand-raised Wallaroo) are just some of the special creatures who have found a home with us, Dexter the cockatoo is a well-known character, and Marni the Eastern Pygmy Possum is everybody’s favourite!
Up to eleven demonstrations, talks and tours are held throughout the day (see our website for up-to-date weekday, weekend schedules), from boomerang throwing to reptile demonstrations to opportunities to get up close and personal with many of our animals. How about a cuddly koala photo? Or would you prefer to pose with a python? You can join in as many of these as you like - or wander around on your own if you prefer, exploring our beautiful bush, including such rare plants as our Wollemi colony and large areas of Darwinia glaucophylla.
Most popular are our well-known Aboriginal Heritage and Bush Tucker and Bush Medicine tours. We are extremely privileged to not only be located on Darkinjung land, but also to protect a very special hand stencil cave, numerous rock engravings, mondos, axe-grinding grooves and fire-rings. We ask our visitors to treat these precious reminders of our country’s history with the respect they deserve, as they indulge their five senses with Australian bush tucker and bush medicine.
Birthday Parties:
Our birthday parties are packed full of fun with your own ranger to entertain the children and the grown-ups too!
Make ochre face paint and get painted up, ready for the adventure, then...*
* Try your hand at throwing a boomerang
* Go on a short bush walk with your own ranger
* Track real wild kangaroos and emus through the bush
* Learn about bush tucker and try out Aboriginal medicine
* Feed the tiny pademelons
* Pat a python
* Meet our koalas
* Lather up with bush soap that YOU make from native plants
* And finish up with a sausage sizzle and lolly bag
* This program may change according to conditions at the park
Or let us know the birthday child's interests and we can adapt the program to make this a party he/she will never forget!
Can't come to us? We'll come to you! Our rangers can run a fun-filled program at the venue of your choice.
Kids’ Holiday Programs:
Every school holiday we put on something fun for the kids. Two-hour, ranger-guided activities will keep the children happy while you enjoy a cup of coffee on our wrap-around veranda - or join in with the kids and share their enjoyment while learning about Australia’s bush, wildlife and cultural history. See our website (
www.walkaboutpark.com.au) for up-to-date program descriptions.
School Excursions:
We are the only park in New South Wales where you can both walk amongst free-roaming animals and visit ancient Aboriginal rock art sites. We have created a natural sanctuary, protecting cultural heritage sites and preserving diverse ecosystems. Our park offers general and New South Wales syllabus-based education programs to primary and secondary school groups, who have a great time outdoors while interacting with Australia's flora and fauna and learning about the cultural heritage of its Aboriginal people.
Special Interest Groups:
Whether you belong to a scout group or football club, a music or photographic society or the local Probus group, a garden, art or mothers’ club, we can tailor make an experience just for you.
And What About Lunch (or Dinner)?
Enjoy light lunches and snacks from our cafeteria or bring your own picnic to enjoy on our veranda or in our beautiful picnic field with plenty of tables or chairs. Use our BBQ (please call us to book) or we can provide a magnificent BBQ lunch or dinner for your group by arrangement. And for those extra special 21st birthdays, wedding receptions and corporate functions, we work closely with caterers to provide a menu to suit any taste.
Wild Sleep-Outs:
Turn a memorable experience into an unforgettable one!
Take our soft adventure option - camping without the hassle. We provide and pitch your tent and serve up a delicious bush BBQ - you meet our friendly native animals, enjoy our guided bush tucker, bush medicine and Aboriginal tour, do some night spotting and relax under the stars!
About Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park
Our vision is to provide a sanctuary for Australian fauna and flora, where plants can flourish and animals can roam freely in their natural habitat while being protected by our state-of-the-art predator-proof fence. The thousands of creatures hopping, flying, slithering and running through our pristine bushland have access to their natural food and shelter, supplementary feeding, and veterinary care when ill or injured. Those animals that need to be in enclosures for legal or safety reasons receive the best of care, including enrichment programs to keep them bright and stimulated. Our park also provides refuge for rehabilitated injured and orphaned animals, treated and raised by professional carers but unable to be re-released into the wild. These are some of the friendliest native animals you will find in New South Wales, and their wild counterparts often seem to follow their lead, freely choosing to interact with human rangers and visitors.
