Parents Can Make a Difference

Have you ever wondered just how much difference you could make to your child’s development? When my son was born with Down syndrome in November 2006, I became a full time student of what could be done – by any parent – to maximize a child’s development and potential in all areas of life. I refused to belief that a diagnosis meant low achievement and expectations.
I’ve spent the last 3 years researching what I could do for my son, through natural therapies and at home. Even though this research started because of Down syndrome, through this I have discovered incredible information which can benefit any child... information about how our dietary choices affect our moods and behavior… about how the equipment we use with our kids – like prams and rockers - can affect their mobility and how in turn, this mobility can affect brain function.
My journey into potential for any child has been rewarding beyond my wildest dreams because I have applied what I have learnt and have achieved an incredible outcome for my son! At 3, he is healthy, bright, well and very minimally compromised by his Down syndrome. He is rarely sick, and has none of the ‘usual’ Downs illnesses. (there is quite a catalogue of these...)
Our work has helped him to overcome allergies, grow better than expected, to become alert, more active and physically strong and it has also helped him to develop learning pathways which would not have developed so quickly had we not intervened – at 18 months, he could read….
I have met many parents since I have embarked on this journey of discovery, and so many of them are in despair about what they can do to bring about improvement for a child with brain-related ‘special needs’ like  ADHD, Aspergers, Autism, etc etc etc. I have found tools which have worked for us and I am now so happy to be able to share this information with other parents and to help other kids!
I have written a book called ‘Naturally Better’ which is now available as an ebook. This book is my diary and explanations of what different therapies can do for any child as well as how we have used them for our son. Over 70 colour pictures show the changes we observed along the way – changes which are quite astounding.   My ebook is being read all over the world by parents of kids with and without special needs, but all of them looking for what they can do to help their kids achieve their best – naturally.
One of the major factors in our success is a program from The Institutes For The Achievement Of Human Potential in Philadelphia.  This month, I am sponsoring an amazing speaker from The Institutes called Douglas Doman, whose father Glenn Doman has written many books on the subject of what parents can do to help their own children. This information is just as useful for a child without special needs, as one gentleman told me today – he used Glenn Doman’s reading program with his 3 children years ago:
“…teaching my 3 kids to read (after reading Glenn Doman’s book) has had a great impact on their lives….academic scholarships to the private school of our choice (all 3), 2 school captains, 2 university scholarships, a citizenship scholarship etc. In financial terms it’s hundreds of thousands of dollars, but you really can’t put a price on it.” -  Jamie Kennedy – Williamstown
This reading system is incredibly simple to do – by any parent, at home.
Glenn Doman’s ‘Institutes For The Achievement Of Human Potential’ in Philadelphia has not been to Australia for over 30 years, so this is a brilliant opportunity for parents to attend seminars in Melbourne & Sydney.  I hope to see you there!
